Things that taste good

May 25, 2017

I was just thinking about all the food’s that I like and I put the Greenwood Coney’s right up there on top of the list. They may not actually be #1 because I have a strong affection toward lobster, but they are close.

Years ago while I was away in the service I once got a surprise package from home.  We all loved the surprise packages.  The only problem was the share rule.  You couldn’t hoard the stuff, you had to share it.

So this package comes to me out in the field.  The field was where you really didn’t want to be because it was very dangerous, but the surprise packages made it seem better. In the package were a variety of special meat products.  There were big long sticks of pepperoni and big pieces of beef jerky and dried beef.  The package was a big hit.  My wife had sent me the package.  Her mom and she had gone to a old fashioned meat market near where we were from and got the stuff.  When my wife told the store owner where the package was going he gave them the meat.  What a nice guy.  Also in the package was a bottle of maraschino cherries’.  Now I like a good bright red maraschino cherry in a Coke now and then, but what I got was a real surprise.  I couldn’t for the world figure out why anyone would send a jar of those things, but my answer came as a great surprise. My wife had got a recipe from a friend of her cousins who had served in Korea. What she did was she took the cherries out and dried them out slowly in the oven and then she put them back in the bottle and filled the bottle with liquor. They looked normal when they reconstituted, but when you bit into one it was anything but normal.  I can’t remember if there were enough to go around but I remember those and the meat products were one of the best things I ever had.

So if you haven’t tried the Greenwood’s Coney Island sauce you need to get a pack and give it a try.  It might not taste quite as good as lobster, but it’s a close second.  For the price and ease of putting together the meal, this stuff is a really good choice. It is so easy to make and it is so versatile. You can get it at Thriftway in Canby or on line at greenwoodfoods.com
